Australia, through the Australia-Cambodia Cooperation for Equitable Sustainable Services (ACCESS) program, has made a significant impact on survivors of domestic violence in Cambodia.

Phnom Penh, March 14, 2024: From 2018 to 2023 a total of 6,590 service sessions were delivered to 3,378 survivors, including 388 children and 79 persons with disabilities. Among these, 1,698 gender-based violence clients received legal services provided by government and civil society organizations.

PS was one of the domestic violence survivors who received support from ACCESS. Over nearly two decades, PS’ husband committed domestic violence against her, making it hard for her to lead a normal life and support their three children.

However, increased community awareness enabled PS to access suitable domestic violence support services from local authorities. In a cooperative partnership between Legal Aid of Cambodia (LAC) and local authorities, PS received substantial support during her court proceedings, from filing complaints to the final verdict.

Ultimately, PS successfully secured a significant portion of their property through the court settlement and gained full custody of her children. In addition, the court has ordered her husband to pay child support until their children turn 18.
